Bowman's capsule

Definition
A cup-shaped structure at the start of a nephron that surrounds the glomerulus. It collects the filtrate produced by ultrafiltration: a liquid containing water, glucose, amino acids, urea and mineral ions, but not blood cells or large proteins.
What to include in an exam answer
The filtrate in Bowman's capsule contains everything that is in blood plasma except large proteins. Useful glucose and amino acids are later reabsorbed in the proximal convoluted tubule.
