How to self-mark effectively
Answer the question without notes, under timed conditions
Open the mark scheme and mark honestly: do not give yourself the benefit of the doubt
For each point you missed: identify why (knowledge gap? Wrong command word technique? Vague language?)

Learning from the mark scheme
Mark schemes reveal the exact phrases that earn marks. If the mark scheme says "active site changes shape" and you wrote "enzyme stops working", you now know the precise wording needed. Build a list of these key phrases for each topic.
The 3-day retest
Three days after correcting a question, answer a similar question (from a different past paper) on the same topic. If you get it right, the correction worked. If you get it wrong again, the understanding is not secure: go back to the textbook for that specific concept.
