Bronchus

Definition
One of two large airways that branch from the trachea and enter the left and right lungs. The bronchi have walls supported by cartilage rings and are lined with ciliated cells and mucus-producing goblet cells. The plural is bronchi.
What to include in an exam answer
The airway order is: trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli. State this sequence in gas exchange pathway questions.
Example in context
Describe the pathway of air from the trachea to the alveoli (2 marks): Air passes from the trachea into the bronchi, then into smaller bronchioles, and finally reaches the alveoli where gas exchange occurs.
