Ingestion

Definition
The taking of food into the body through the mouth. It is the first stage of the digestive process, before digestion, absorption, assimilation and egestion.
What to include in an exam answer
Do not confuse ingestion (taking food in) with digestion (breaking food down). They are separate processes. Ingestion is simply the act of eating.
