Vitamin C

Definition
A water-soluble vitamin found in citrus fruits and vegetables that is needed for the formation and maintenance of connective tissue, healthy skin and blood vessels. Deficiency of vitamin C causes scurvy.
What to include in an exam answer
The classic deficiency disease question: vitamin C deficiency causes scurvy (bleeding gums, poor wound healing, weakness). Always name the vitamin, the source and the deficiency disease as three linked points.
Example in context
Name the vitamin whose deficiency causes scurvy, and state a source of this vitamin (2 marks): Vitamin C. Sources include citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons.
