Cytoplasm

Definition
The jelly-like material that fills the cell between the cell membrane and the nucleus. Most chemical reactions of metabolism take place here, including many enzyme-controlled reactions.
What to include in an exam answer
State that chemical reactions occur in the cytoplasm, not just that it 'fills the cell'. This earns the function mark.
Example in context
State the function of cytoplasm (1 mark): It is where most of the cell's chemical reactions take place.
